Aura is a menstrual cycle, ovulation, and cycle-health companion operated by Josmol Group Inc. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We have written it in plain language because you should be able to understand what happens to your health information without a lawyer.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Your phone number, used to sign in and to keep the app, WhatsApp, and SMS in sync as one account.
- Cycle information you log: period dates, basal body temperature, ovulation (LH) test results, cervical mucus observations, and any symptoms or notes you write.
- Which goal you have selected — trying to conceive, avoiding pregnancy, or general cycle health.
- Messages you send to Ada, our AI companion.
Information from devices you connect (only if you choose to)
- Continuous skin temperature, resting heart rate, and heart-rate variability from Apple Health, Android Health Connect, or Oura.
- You control this connection and can disconnect it at any time. We import only the measurements listed above.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect photographs. When you scan an ovulation test strip, the image is analysed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to us or stored anywhere.
- We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers or data brokers.
How we use your information
- To estimate your fertile window, predict your next period, and confirm ovulation from your logged signals.
- To calculate your Reliability Index — an honest measure of how confident the app is about a given day.
- To surface patterns that may be worth discussing with a clinician (see below).
- To answer your questions through Ada, our AI companion.
- To send you the check-ins and updates you have opted in to receive.
Health patterns and what they are not
Ada, our AI companion
When you ask Ada a question, we send your message and a summary of your current cycle state (such as cycle day, phase, and reliability score) to Anthropic, our AI provider, so it can generate a useful reply. We do not send your phone number, your name, or your full logging history. Anthropic processes this on our behalf under contract and does not use it to train its models.
Messaging and consent
We only send you proactive messages — daily check-ins, fertile-window updates — if you have explicitly opted in. We record when you opted in, through which channel, and the words you used, so we can prove your consent was given.
You can stop these at any time by replying STOP on WhatsApp or SMS, or turning them off in the app. Stopping proactive messages does not stop you from messaging Aura — you can still ask questions whenever you want.
Who we share with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us operate: our hosting and database providers, Anthropic (AI replies), Google Firebase (sign-in only), our messaging providers (Meta for WhatsApp; Twilio and Africa's Talking for SMS); and, if you choose a telehealth visit, CareClix (our US telehealth partner and the licensed provider of record) or our in-house clinicians in Nigeria. Each is bound by contract to protect your data.
- Legal authorities, if we are required by law to do so.
We will never share your cycle or fertility data with employers, insurers, or advertisers.
How we protect it
- Your health data is stored in an encrypted database that your browser never accesses directly. Every request passes through our servers, which verify your identity first.
- Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your phone. We never store passwords.
- Test-strip images are processed on your device and never leave it.
- We restrict internal access to what is needed to operate and support the service.
Your rights and choices
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction — fix anything inaccurate.
- Deletion — delete your account and all associated logs. This is permanent.
- Withdraw consent — stop proactive messaging at any time.
- Disconnect devices — revoke wearable access at any time.
Email privacy@auracycleapp.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Where your data lives
Aura serves users in the United States and Nigeria. Data may be processed in either country or in other countries where our service providers operate. We apply the same protections wherever it is held.
For users in Nigeria, we handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act and NDPR principles. For users in the United States, we apply health-data safeguards consistent with HIPAA practices; note that Aura is a consumer wellness service and is not, in most cases, a HIPAA covered entity.
How long we keep it
We keep your cycle data for as long as your account is active, because the accuracy of your predictions depends on your history. If you delete your account we remove your data promptly. We retain a minimal record of messaging consent where we are required to demonstrate that consent was given.
Children
Aura is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Aura, contact us and we will delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by message before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
